Interview with Giacomo Nicolella Maschietti, Journalist, Art Market Expert – Digital Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

Art Rights Magazine, Media Partner of Art Rights Prize, the first International Digital Prize for Artists 3.0, presents every week the Judges that make up the Jury of Experts of the Art System and the Art Market.

In the perspective of comparison and meeting between Artists and Art Professionals, the Jury of Art Rights Prize boasts the participation of 15 Judges who offer a personal and professional preview of the importance of Art Awards, advice on the best way to submit their candidacy together with the motivations that should push an artist to participate in an art award

“It is full of artisans, I need to find artists”. Giacomo Nicolella Maschietti, Journalist and Expert of the Art Market as well as Judge for Digital Art of the Art Rights Prize does not mince words.

His thoughts on Art and Artists are often the subject of pungent articles for his column “Motel Nicolella”, where he has never spared reflections and stored up in the world of art. Like this one: “[…] Today’s artist is not contemporary. He is not in step with the times. He does not face the current world, the digital world. He doesn’t do it except in a superficial way, he caresses him to the maximum “.

Here in this interview Giacomo clearly addresses what he expects to find in the candidacies of Artists who measure themselves with Digital Art, who are not afraid of having 1000 years of art on their shoulders, but who instead have ideas that they can translate into works …

1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?

An art award plays a supporting role in the evolution of an artist’s career, favoring the promotion of the work of artists.

In this regard, he urges them in a series of actions that can allow the artist:

    • to rationalize their work: selecting the works of a project to submit for their candidacy, “forcing” the author to reflect on their work and “choose” in a conscious way with a view to proposing the best of their production
    • to get in touch with curators and art gallery owners who can help artists to manage and select their work, presenting it in a critical and structured way also to the collecting market, making the public perceive the novelties of language, creation and message and possibly the rereadings that the artist proposes.

Furthermore, participating in an award should be seen by every artist as an opportunity to broaden their horizons.

The award can offer an increase in visibility, local or international, a fundamental aspect for reaching a new audience and increasing one’s recognition on the market.

2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?

The first tip is to fully understand the objective of the award. Including the objectives, the second recommendation is to tackle your own production, which can be huge, critically without the fear of “selecting” the works.

Each author is jealous of his work, because it is the result of an important effort and his own creativity, but it is necessary to create a cohesive set of works that create a project and above all express a thought or a message that the artist in his own creations wants to address to world.

3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?

In judging a work for an Art Award, I tend to favor innovation in research both in the mode of production and, and above all, in the message that the artist intends to bring out.

I try to intercept new trends that aim at increasingly articulated insights and thoughts, or that can favor the use of new technologies with experimental methods, or that create “sets” in which to drop their messages or that try to re-read and update the past and memory investigating the contemporary.
