Fabio Giampietro: space and time in NFTs

Fabio Giampietro is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the story and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presenta Fabio Giampietro

Fabio Giampietro is a digital artist who works by creating connections between Virtual Reality and painting.

His NFTs are studies on movement, spatial and temporal perception that push the viewer to investigate the different representative planes of the work with their eyes.

    WHO IS FABIO GIAMPIETRO?

Although art has been part of Fabio Giampietro’s existence since he was a child, the artist puts it aside during his university studies and then finds it again once completed.

His work follows the path of the pictorial tradition by introducing technology as an innovative element.

His first approach to digital art takes place through VR, but when Crypto Art begins to gain notoriety, Giampietro is one of the first to recognize its potential.

    LA SUA ARTE

His first NFTs are works created specifically for the crypto world. Portraits of representative characters for the universe of programming, such as Elon Musk or Alan Turing, and landscapes that portray futuristic cities.

His images take shape from compositions of buildings playing with the spatial and temporal perception of the viewer.

Giampietro carries on the experimentation introduced by Italian modern art movements such as Futurism and bends the spatial dimension to his will, creating images that hide different levels of visual representation.

His working method is very interesting because it involves the subtraction of colors from oil paintings on canvas.

“Hyperplanes – The Downward” (2018) perfectly reflects the artist’s aesthetic.

In this NFT we see a hyper-urbanized city collapsing on itself as if engulfed by a chasm.

The image seems both motionless and in motion, as if capturing an eternal temporal fragment.

It is no coincidence that many of Giampietro’s works are also made in VR format. In fact, the movement component is implicit and immediately perceptible in his work.

The movement is also present in the portraits of him, as in “Mendax”, where the face of the controversial character Julian Assange takes shape from what is actually a collection of buildings.

Is it Assange’s face that takes shape from the buildings claustrophobically juxtaposed to each other or the opposite?

The human eye is unable to tell, but this element of misunderstanding makes the image bewitching.

WHAT THE CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT FABIO GIAMPIETRO

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins” writes about Fabio Giampietro:

“Among the many inspirations we discussed with Fabio Giampietro in the interview, there are individual organisms that become complex machines and that the artist observes from a different point of view which he summarizes with ‘looking at things from above’, such as were cities “.
