CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Helena Sarin
Born in Moscow, Helena Sarin is a visual artist who works with the generative potential of artificial intelligence.
The result of a perpetual union between analogue and digital, real and virtual, her works are timeless images that bring the humanity of the historical-artistic tradition into the Crypto universe.
WHO IS HELENA SARIN?
Helena Sarin is used to working with extremely advanced technologies. As a software engineer she worked at Bell Labs to develop computer vision programs through the use of deep learning.
Her passion for art has always gone hand in hand with his career in technology, but Sarin has continued to work only in analog for a long time.
Everything changed with the discovery of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) which allowed her to experiment with the infinite result variables deriving from the use of different datasets and new algorithmic models.
Helena Sarin is unanimously recognized in the Crypto Art sector as one of the artists who has contributed most to the development of generative art with artificial intelligence.
HER ART
Despite her love for technology, Helena Sarin knows that the digital medium is not enough to make a work of value. The artist’s thoughts and will remain the key element.
For this reason, her AI model is trained on the basis of the artist’s own works, so that no one can replicate her taste and gesture.
The result are works in which the element of collage is often found and which are reminiscent of the first Cubist production.
The black stroke returns as a graphic element, together with the use of lettering and two-dimensional textures.
Helena Sarin’s NFTs amaze with their warmth and visual delicacy that is extremely human, far from digital aesthetics.
“House that Nakashima Built: The Tea Ceremony” (2020), like her other works, has a style reminiscent of Japanese painting, as the title suggests.
Here too we find a strong trace of humanity and in fact, the work is also made with manual interventions. The images generated by the AI are cut by hand and glued on paper to build a collage that brings the work back to the analogical plane.
The continuous play between the artist’s hand and the algorithm balances the aesthetics of Helena Sarin’s works, giving them material and earthly dimension that makes them timeless, even though they belong to the digital age.
