Interview with Karen Levy, Collector and Founder AIKA – Digital Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

She is the daughter of art and passion runs through her veins, passed on by her collector parents.
In the fate of Karen Levy, Founder of “The Art of This Century” and recently co-founder of AiKA – Strategy & Art Connection, there were the artists, communication and innovation of the art world.
She is convinced of this: we live in the digital age, so art and artists should be able to experience unprecedented opportunities through new technologies for the use, display, sale and promotion of their works.
That’s why Karen is part of the Digital Art Jury for the Art Rights Prize and in this interview she tells us why it is important to participate in the prizes for artists and what are the factors that affect her in the applications…
Karen Levy worked at Sotheby’s London Private Client Group, where she was responsible for European and Asian clients.
Previously, he worked at other major art institutions and auction houses such as Phillips and Asia Society, and coordinated the “Art of the World” project at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
He founded the event agency “The Art of this Century”, providing tailor-made experiences and special encounters in the world of art, while in 2019 he co-founded AiKA – Strategy & Art Connection.
Karen actively participates in the construction of her family’s private collection, DSLcollection, an important Western collection focused on Chinese contemporary art.
1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?
Winning a prize can give an artist an important exposure but also raises the question of who really benefits.
Personally the prize that I follow is the Turner prize which was established by the Tate because collectors outside the UK are familiar with the Turner Prize and the way in which it bestows legitimacy on artists, both critically and commercially.
The Venice Biennal pavilion prize is also interesting but it is more about already established artists an Art prize definitely adds to the provenance of an artist to have won the Turner Prize or represented a country at the Venice Biennale”.
However, the work itself outweighs any related awards
2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?
He must take into account that it is a competition and do the best of the best to try to win it. He should also not neglect to communicate a lot at the same time
3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?
All factors have to be taken into account. But personally I’ll focus on the quality of the work and the potential of the artist.
